The Everyday Wonder of Mixed Reality

I'm still bewildered by the world we live in today.

With a lightweight headset that costs just a few hundred dollars, I can step into mixed reality and play chess with a friend across the country. We share a real-time conversation while the game unfolds. Through the headset, I see my actual living room and home around me, complete with digital overlays and decorations that look tangible, yet are entirely synthetic.

This is no high-end laboratory prototype. It’s a consumer device priced roughly the same as one expensive meal or a family day out at the movies. A few hundred dollars buys an experience that once belonged only to science fiction. SMH
